This page describes the 2020 amendments to Japan's Personal Information Protection Law. The amended law was promulgated on June 12, 2020, and will be fully implemented on April 1, 2022. Penalties for false reporting also increased. The law definition penalties became effective on December 12, 2020. Guidelines and implementation measures are being developed.
