The ministry implemented mandatory testing for Chinese lotus seeds and their processed products (containing 5% or more lotus seeds) to detect aflatoxin, a carcinogenic mycotoxin. The action was taken after quarantine inspections detected aflatoxin in Chinese lotus seeds. A violation involved Kansei Trading Co., Ltd. importing approximately 400kg of lotus seeds with aflatoxin levels exceeding safety standards. All shipments are being held for further action.
