This page is a press release from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare dated October 25, 2016, announcing inspection orders for imported food products. The ministry implemented mandatory testing for Chinese lotus seeds and their processed products (containing 5% or more lotus seeds) to detect aflatoxin, a carcinogenic mycotoxin. The action was taken after quarantine inspections detected aflatoxin in Chinese lotus seeds. A violation involved Kansei Trading Co., Ltd. importing approximately 400kg of lotus seeds with aflatoxin levels exceeding safety standards. All shipments are being held for further action.
