This page explains Mobile Number Portability (MNP) for mobile phones and PHS services. MNP allows users to keep their phone number when switching mobile carriers. Benefits include avoiding the need to notify contacts of a new number and promoting competition among carriers. Important considerations include the termination of current services and potential additional fees for discount contracts. Two procedures are available: the One-Stop method (launched May 24, 2023) and the Two-Stop method. Recent guidelines mandate the One-Stop approach and prohibit retention practices by carriers.
