About this page
This page explains that Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is adding 060 numbers to mobile phone numbers. Currently, 070/080/090 numbers are in use, but to address their depletion, the telecommunications number plan was changed on December 20, 2024, enabling carriers to use 11-digit numbers starting with 060-1 through 060-9. These new 060 numbers will become available sequentially from July 2026 onwards. Existing 070/080/090 numbers will continue to be usable.
