About this page
This page describes the Wired Telecommunications Law, which regulates wired telecommunications equipment and protects communication secrecy while preventing interference. Violations of communication secrecy are punishable by up to two years imprisonment or a fine up to 500,000 yen; employees committing such violations face up to three years imprisonment or 1 million yen fine. Damaging equipment or disrupting communications incurs up to five years imprisonment or 1 million yen fine. Automated transmission of signals for profit-making purposes is punishable by up to one year imprisonment or 1 million yen fine.
