This page introduces the Local Government Front Yard Reform Model Projects implemented by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The initiative aims to improve citizen convenience and operational efficiency by supporting comprehensive reforms at the interface between residents and local governments. Model municipalities are selected by population size (under 10,000 to over 300,000) and innovative approaches including advanced data analysis, inter-municipal cooperation, and back-office consolidation. Twelve municipalities participated in fiscal 2023, with eight added in fiscal 2024. Various initiatives such as online applications, paperless counter services, and office space redesign are being implemented, with searchable project details available.
