About this page

This page introduces Satoru Tezuka, Chairman of the Personal Information Protection Commission. The Commission was established in January 2016 and became Japan's command center for personal information protection policy following the full enforcement of the amended Personal Data Protection Law in April 2023. It now oversees both public and private sectors. With the advancement of digital technology and AI, data collaboration and privacy protection challenges have increased significantly. Chairman Tezuka emphasizes balancing data utilization with personal information protection and developing a uniquely Japanese personal information protection framework. He graduated from Keio University, worked at Hitachi, and held professorships at multiple universities before becoming Chairman in May 2025.
