This page announces a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Niantic to introduce historical buildings through Pokémon GO's PokéStops. Shirakawa City in Fukushima Prefecture is the eighth location to implement this project, starting March 31, 2026. Certified historic townscape cities display building descriptions and logos at new PokéStops, linking to a heritage tourism portal. Eighteen locations in Shirakawa City now feature this program, with 15 cities nationwide participating. The ministry aims to expand this initiative across all certified historic cities to promote cultural heritage and local charm.
