About this page
This page presents information about the Water Resources Development Subcommittee of the National Land Council under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). Established in January 2001, the subcommittee investigates and deliberates on decisions and modifications to water resource development plans, providing opinions to the MLIT Minister. It released a statement on "Comprehensive Basin Water Management Approaches" in June 2025. Chaired by Tsuguhiro Watanabe, a professor emeritus at Kyoto University, the subcommittee comprises twelve members including university professors and industry experts. Multiple subcommittees, such as the Tone-Arakawa and Ibi-Kiso subcommittees, have been established, with meeting records and distributed materials publicly available.
