This page describes Japan's Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Law. Facing demographic decline, an aging society, and high national debt, Japan recognizes tourism as crucial for sustainable growth. Under the 2009-2010 Hatoyama administration, tourism was designated as a major economic growth sector. Led by Minister Seiji Maehara, the government established the Office of Tourism Nation Promotion and MLIT Growth Strategy Council to develop concrete tourism measures. The strategy focuses on East Asian markets, promoting inbound travel through PDCA cycles, and supporting region-driven tourism destination development to achieve economic revitalization and international understanding.
