This page provides information about the Standard Sublease Housing Contract created by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. A sublease house is where a property manager rents a building from its owner and leases it to tenants. The Ministry developed this standard contract to prevent disputes between tenants and property managers following the enactment of a law in June 2020. While not legally mandatory, the contract aims to establish rational rental agreements and trust between parties. Multiple versions are available in PDF and Word formats, including options for rent guarantee companies and guarantors, plus fixed-term rental versions. Recent updates include provisions for post-mortem affairs contracts.
