This page details the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's response to fraudulent conduct by Toyota Industries in engine type approval applications. In March 2023, the company reported improper practices in emission gas testing for industrial machinery engines, including part replacement, result manipulation, and software modifications. Two forklift diesel engine models failed to meet emission standards. By January 2024, misconduct was confirmed across all five current industrial engine models. The ministry conducted inspections, hearings, and revoked type approvals. Toyota Industries was instructed to halt shipments, conduct recalls, and implement preventive measures.
