This page is a press release from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) dated February 1, 2018, announcing inspection orders on imported foods. Due to detection of oxytetracycline (an antibiotic) in Chinese bee larvae products, the MHLW implemented mandatory testing for all lots under food sanitation law. Two cases of bee larvae powder violations were reported, with detected levels below standards and no health impact confirmed. The ministry will direct importers to conduct voluntary inspections until registered testing facilities are ready to accept orders.
