This page announces an inspection order issued by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on June 1, 2017. Chinese fresh lychees were found to exceed residue standards for 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, a plant growth regulator. Consequently, all batches of Chinese lychees and their simply processed products became subject to mandatory inspection under the Food Sanitation Law. Two violation cases involved imports by Meikoh Shoji Co., Ltd. Health risks are assessed as minimal based on daily intake calculations.
