This page is a press release from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare issued on January 21, 2016, regarding an import food inspection order. Aflatoxin, a carcinogenic mycotoxin, was detected in Italian almond processed products containing 30% or more almonds. Based on the Food Sanitation Law, an inspection order for all lots was implemented. The violation involved 600 cartons (6 tons) imported by Sprout Co., Ltd., with aflatoxin detected at 17 μg/kg. Italian fresh almonds were already subject to inspection orders.
