This page provides information from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare regarding radioactive substances in food. The government sets safety standards for radioactive materials and conducts continuous inspections to ensure safe food distribution. As of April 1, 2024, food sanitation standards administration was transferred from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to the Consumer Affairs Agency. The agencies work together with the Food Safety Commission and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to provide information about food and radioactivity. Survey results show radiation levels are approximately 0.1% of the annual 1 millisievert baseline used for establishing standards.
