This page reports on a data breach incident in a web survey conducted by the Japan Fair Trade Commission. On July 20, 2020, responses submitted by some businesses became visible to other participants between 11:45 AM and 1:00 PM. Affected companies saw competitors' input displayed on their screens. The Commission immediately contacted the outsourced operator and restricted access thereafter. Businesses whose confidential information such as sales figures may have been exposed will receive individual explanations. To prevent recurrence, the Commission commits to implementing more rigorous preliminary testing procedures.
