This page announces enforcement actions by the Japan Fair Trade Commission on September 26, 2019, against manufacturers and sellers of beverage aluminum and steel cans for violating the Antimonopoly Act. Companies including Universal Can Manufacturing, Toyo Seikan, and Hokkai Seikan engaged in price-fixing agreements since around 2010, maintaining prices and avoiding competitive bidding. Exclusionary orders and surcharge payment orders were issued. Total surcharges imposed were approximately 2.04 billion yen for aluminum cans and 533 million yen for steel cans.
