Currently, bereaved families face multiple administrative and private procedures from various institutions, creating significant burdens. Japan recorded over 1.57 million deaths in 2023, the highest on record, with further societal burden increases expected. The policy aims to reduce family burden and improve municipal efficiency through digitalization. The initiative focuses on online submission of death certificates and medical death certificates, while working with relevant agencies to develop systems for reducing the burden of identifying legal heirs.
