This page reports that NTT East and NTT West will end distribution of the paper telephone directory "Town Page" on March 31st. Originating from the "Telephone Subscriber Directory" launched in 1890 with Japan's first telephone service, the publication ends its 135-year history. The directory was split into occupational and alphabetical categories in 1951, receiving its current nickname in 1983. Distribution numbers plummeted from approximately 63.1 million copies in 2005 to 21.15 million in 2024 due to smartphone proliferation and reduced landline contracts. The online version "i Town Page" will continue.
