This document provides updated information on the life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from electricity generation. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) conducted a systematic review of approximately 3,000 studies on GHG emissions from various energy sources, including wind, solar, and biopower. The findings indicate that life cycle GHG emissions from renewable energy technologies are generally lower than those from fossil fuel-based technologies. Additionally, to align the emissions impacts of storage technologies with other generation technologies, only references meeting specific criteria were included in the analysis.
