This page reports on a boat capsizing accident that occurred in March off Henoko, Nago City. Two vessels sank during a peace study trip by Doshisha International High School students from Kyoto, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old female student and a 71-year-old captain. The 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters dispatched staff to the school for voluntary interviews with school officials and, with parental consent, carefully questioned students about the accident. The Coast Guard is also conducting searches and on-site inspections on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death or injury.
