This page announces import inspection orders issued by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on July 28, 2014. Residue violations were detected in imported seeds: profenofos exceeded safe levels in Bangladesh-origin cumin seeds, and imidacloprid in Burkina Faso-origin sesame seeds. Mandatory testing for all shipments was implemented under the Food Sanitation Law. Two cumin powder cases detected 0.12ppm and 0.51ppm profenofos (standard: 0.05ppm). The ministry clarified that normal consumption levels pose no health risk to consumers.
