This page explains procedures for applying for digital simplex radio stations (registered stations) by Hokkaido Bureau of Telecommunications. Digital simplex radio was institutionalized in August 2008, introducing a registration system alongside the traditional licensing system, making it more accessible. Key differences between licensed and registered stations include carrier sense functionality. In June 2023, amendments increased available channels from 35 to 97. Registration applications are only for radio equipment with type code "R" or "S" and call sign beginning with "2". Non-registrants can now use registered stations, enabling rental use. Applications require the nine-digit call sign memory device number in the identification signal field.
