This page explains Japan's policy evaluation system administered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The system was introduced in January 2001 as part of central government reform, based on recommendations from 1997. The Policy Evaluation Law was enacted and implemented from April 2002. The system aims to promote objective and rigorous policy evaluation and reflect results appropriately while publishing evaluation information. This ensures effective and efficient administration and government accountability to citizens. Each ministry evaluates its policies, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs oversees overall promotion and cross-ministerial policy evaluations.
