This page describes Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' research and development subsidy program to bridge the digital divide. The program provides grants to companies and universities developing new ICT devices and services for elderly and disabled people. Designated smaller-scale enterprises and universities receive up to 100% subsidy in the first year for designated theme projects, while larger companies receive up to 67%. Other projects receive up to 50% support. The maximum subsidy per project is 20 million yen. Examples include research on navigation services for visually impaired people in subway stations using QR codes and wearable devices.
