This page announces inspection orders on Syrian pistachio nut processed products by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Following the detection of aflatoxin in pistachio paste manufactured in Italy (imported by EATALY JAPAN), all Syrian-origin processed products containing 30% or more pistachios are now subject to mandatory testing for each import shipment. Aflatoxin is a carcinogenic mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus fungi and is prohibited above set limits. The affected cargo is currently held in quarantine.
