This page announces an inspection order on imported lotus seeds and processed products from China, issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on January 24, 2014. The order was implemented based on food sanitation law provisions. Monitoring tests at quarantine facilities detected aflatoxin, a carcinogenic fungal toxin, in Chinese lotus seeds. A violation case involved fresh lotus seeds imported by Hino Pharmaceutical, which tested positive for 663μg/kg of aflatoxin. The safety standard requires zero aflatoxin presence.
