This page explains how to register a public fund reception account during income tax filing since January 2022. Taxpayers can register their refund account as a public fund reception account through e-Tax electronic filing or paper filing at tax offices. Registration results are notified via My Number Portal, e-Tax message box, or postal notification. Applications are rejected if the financial institution is ineligible, account existence cannot be verified, or the account is already registered. Information is not sent to the Digital Agency if filing contains errors, incorrect My Number, failed identity verification, or ineligible account types. Different procedures apply for Japan Post Bank versus other institutions.
