This page describes the hunting tax, a purpose tax levied by prefectures to cover costs of wildlife protection and hunting administration. Taxpayers are those registered as hunters with prefectural governors. Tax rates vary by license type and income level: Class 1 gun hunting licenses cost 11,000-16,500 yen, net and trap hunting licenses 5,500-8,200 yen, and Class 2 air gun licenses 5,500 yen. Designated wildlife capture workers are exempt from tax, while those engaged in authorized capture pay half rate. Collection methods include ordinary collection or stamp collection.
