This page describes the response to a food additive (protease) manufactured using genetically modified microorganisms without undergoing the required safety review under the Food Sanitation Act. Amano Enzyme Co., Ltd. discovered that their additive was produced using genetically modified bacteria, contrary to requirements. The company has voluntarily stopped manufacturing and sales, initiating product recalls. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare instructed the company to cease production until safety review completion and submit necessary data. Currently, no immediate health risks are identified. Safety evaluation data will be submitted to the Food Safety Commission for assessment.
