This page reports that PFOS and PFOA, representative organic fluorine compounds (PFAS), will become subject to water quality standards under the Water Supply Law from April 2026. Local governments and water utilities are required to conduct regular water quality tests every three months. When standards are exceeded, investigation and improvement measures are necessary. The standard is 50 nanograms per liter. Previously a provisional target, it is now formally upgraded to a binding standard. Eight other substances are classified for further study. This strengthens measures following detections nationwide.
