Final agreement on building the framework for mutual and smooth transfer of personal data between Japan and the European Union |PPC Personal Information Protection Commission,Japan

This page announces the final agreement between Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) and the European Commission on establishing a framework for mutual and smooth transfer of personal data between Japan and the EU. Following dialogue since April 2016, Commissioners Kumazawa and Jourová confirmed the final agreement on July 17, 2018. Both sides committed to completing the necessary internal procedures by autumn 2018 to make the framework operational. The PPC will proceed with notification procedures for EU designation based on the Personal Information Protection Act.
