Final agreement on building the framework for mutual and smooth transfer of personal data between Japan and the European Union |PPC Personal Information Protection Commission,Japan

This page describes the final agreement reached on July 17, 2018, between Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) and the European Commission regarding the framework for mutual and smooth transfer of personal data between Japan and the EU. Following dialogue since April 2016, both commissions confirmed their commitment to establishing this framework. They pledged to complete the necessary internal procedures by autumn 2018 to operationalize the framework. The PPC will proceed with procedures for EU designation based on the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, coordinated with the European Commission's adequacy decision for Japan.
