This page announces an import inspection order issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on September 28, 2016. Korean melon and its processed products were found to contain chlorfenapyr (a pesticide) exceeding safety standards in quarantine monitoring tests. The ministry implemented a mandatory inspection requirement for all lots of imported products. Two violation cases are detailed, both detecting 0.02 ppm chlorfenapyr against the standard of 0.01 ppm. However, the health risk is minimal with significant safety margins incorporated in the standards.
