This page is a press release from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare dated January 30, 2015, regarding the discovery of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) in Norway. The first case of BSE was confirmed in Norway, with subsequent testing confirming atypical BSE. In response, the ministry suspended import procedures for Norwegian beef and processed products. The quarantine stations had already been instructed not to import food containing specific risk materials, even from BSE-free countries. Import statistics for Norwegian beef over the previous four years are provided as reference.
