This page reports that Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) has launched multi-carrier functionality for its SoftSIM, a software-based SIM technology for IoT devices. Previously supporting only NTT Docomo's network, it now enables seamless switching to backup carriers using roaming. Multiple carrier profiles can be stored within communication modules, providing automatic failover when the primary network experiences outages or poor signal. SoftSIM eliminates physical SIM cards, reducing costs and enabling miniaturization while improving durability for manufacturing and outdoor IoT applications. Pricing includes a 3,000 yen initial fee and 200 yen monthly for both primary and backup lines, plus 15 yen per MB data charges.
