This page is a press release from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare dated March 24, 2014, regarding a case of mixed shipment of Canadian beef. Among 1,494 boxes of frozen diaphragm imported to Tokyo Port, one box (approximately 12 kg) suspected to be derived from cattle over 30 months old was found mixed in. The Ministry determined this cargo non-compliant with export conditions to Japan and suspended import procedures from the exporting facility JBS FOOD CANADA INC. The cargo has not been distributed. The Ministry will respond appropriately based on the investigation results from the Canadian government.
