This page reports on the 2022 fiscal year inspection results of bridges and other road infrastructure, published as the "Road Maintenance Annual Report." Since 2014, road managers have been required to conduct inspections every five years. The second inspection cycle shows progress rates of 83% for bridges, 73% for tunnels, and 78% for road attachments. For bridges rated as Category III or IV in the first inspection, local governments achieved a 75% implementation rate but only 56% completion rate for repairs, compared to the national government's 99% and 70% respectively. High-speed road companies showed 95% and 75%. Additionally, local government consideration of facility consolidation, demolition, or downsizing increased significantly from 35% to 80%.
