This page outlines the application procedures for the Pedestrian-Friendly Road System (Hokominchi), which allows installation of chairs, tables, and dining facilities on roads. Two permits are required: a road occupancy permit from the road administrator and a road usage permit from police. Applications can be submitted in writing or online via the road occupancy system. If standards are met, both permits can be applied for simultaneously at either the highway office or police station. Pre-consultation with administrators and police is required if standards are not met.
