This page is a press release from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism regarding ammonia fuel ship development toward carbon neutrality by 2050. Under the Green Innovation Fund's "Next-Generation Ship Development" project, two new research and development themes have been selected to enhance safety and environmental performance. The first theme, led by Hitachi Zosen and Nippon Yusen Kaisha, focuses on developing equipment to remove nitrous oxide (N2O) from exhaust gases. The second theme, by Itochu and Fuji Electric, aims to develop ammonia leak prevention equipment including measurement, detection, and recovery systems. These developments will strengthen Japan's international competitiveness in the maritime industry.
