This page announces Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's initiative to introduce regional design license plates in 41 areas. These plates feature local landscapes and tourist resources, serving as moving advertisements for regional attractions. The specific designs will be finalized by December 2017, with distribution beginning around October 2018. Participating regions can use donations for traffic improvements and tourism promotion. Additionally, new regional designation applications are being accepted alongside the existing 116 regional plates.
