This page explains ultra-compact mobility vehicles by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. These vehicles accommodate 1-2 passengers and offer compact size, maneuverability, and excellent environmental performance. They are classified into three categories: Class 1 motorized bicycles, light vehicles (type-designated), and light vehicles (certified). The ministry established a certification system in January 2013 prioritizing safety, allowing public road operation under conditions such as prohibiting expressway use. Implementation guidelines, operational handbooks, and regional transport bureau support are available.
