This page reports an incident at an elementary school in Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture, where a student accidentally discharged tear spray. On April 2nd, a portable tear spray stored in a childcare classroom as a security measure was mistakenly taken and sprayed toward a hallway. The spray drifted into the classroom, causing 10 students—2 boys and 8 girls—to experience tears and coughing. All victims were treated for minor injuries at local hospitals. The classroom had 3 staff members and approximately 40 students present. The local education board subsequently notified all childcare facilities about proper storage procedures.
