This page reports that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested two members of a subordinate organization of the Kouhei family, a central organization of the designated gang Sumiyoshi-kai, on suspicion of attempted extortion. The suspects allegedly brandished a survival knife and threatened a man on a Shinjuku street on March 24, demanding money. The victim fled to a nearby convenience store and called police. The Kouhei family is linked to "anonymous, fluid-type crime groups" engaged in special fraud. The Metropolitan Police established a special countermeasure headquarters in January and upgraded it in April. This arrest is the first following the organizational strengthening.
