This page reports on the closure of the Niigata Kōtsū Tram Line on April 4, 1999, after 66 years of operation. The line connected Niigata City and surrounding towns but faced declining ridership and deteriorating infrastructure, making continuation difficult. On its final day, children presented thank-you bouquets to staff at the terminal Tsukigata Station. The Gahara Railway in Niigata Prefecture was also discontinued later that October.
