This page reports that Tokyo University has dismissed Associate Professor Masahiro Matsubara (53) from the Faculty of Medicine for dismissal. Between September 2018 and May 2025, Matsubara fraudulently diverted approximately 1.51 million yen in research funds by submitting purchase requests for items not used in research. The purchased items were bought for use by relatives. Matsubara was indicted in absentia for bribery, having allegedly received endowed donations in exchange for prioritizing a medical device manufacturer's products.
