This page reports that Maki Takubo, former mayor of Ito City in Shizuoka Prefecture (56), will be indicted in absentia by the Shizuoka District Public Prosecutors Office on charges of violating the Local Autonomy Law and forging and using official documents. She allegedly made false statements to the city council's special investigation committee regarding academic credential fraud. Prosecutors determined she fabricated a diploma and used forged stamps purchased online. Objective evidence shows she did not actually graduate from university. This is the first indictment in the series of allegations, and the case will proceed to criminal trial.
