This page reports that Maki Takubo, former mayor of Ito City in Shizuoka Prefecture, was indicted in absentia on academic fraud charges. According to the indictment, Takubo allegedly forged a diploma using a seal made by a contractor between May and June of last year and showed it to assembly members. He also allegedly made false statements at a city council investigation committee in August. Although Takubo denied criminal responsibility during police questioning, the case will now be contested in court.
